Water Treatment Works Planning Permission

The Assignment

CT Planning have secured planning permission on behalf of South Staffs Water at their Water Treatment Works in Seedy Mill, Lichfield for a new Rapid Gravity Filter Building.

As the site is located in the West Midlands Green Belt, where development is subject to a stricter degree of control in order to ensure that development in this location does not harm the special characteristics and openness of the area, very special circumstances needed to be demonstrated.

How we succeeded

The application successfully demonstrated that the operational development would fall within the confinements of the wider Water Treatment Works and is visually screened. Furthermore, the benefits derived from the development to facilitate the upgraded operations in accordance with health and safety requirements presented a justifiable reason for the additional footprint. The council agreed that the additional footprint at the Water Treatment Works was necessary for the benefit of the local community to provide safe drinking water, and as such met the exceptions for appropriate development within the Green Belt.
