Listed Building Consent for the redevelopment of Burton Upon Trent's Magistrates Court

Location: Staffordshire

Category: Heritage

CT Planning are thrilled to have obtained Planning and Listed Building Consent for the redevelopment of Burton Upon Trent’s Grade II Listed Magistrates Court. The application comprised of demolition of existing annex building and former court rooms to facilitate the erection of two apartment blocks to form 29 apartments and change of use of former court to a bar (flexible use (Class E(b)).

The Magistrates court is a prominent landmark building within the town that has laid vacant for over 6 years. The application was challenged from heritage and highways perspectives but Charlotte El Hakiem MRTPI successfully argued given the sustainability of the location, the social and economic benefits of the development, positive heritage consequences, public benefit and contribution to housing supply that the planning balance should be tipped in favour of the development.
