Redevelopment of a brownfield site in the green belt

Category: Green Belt, Rural

Local Planning Authority: Walsall Council

Location: West Midlands

Architect: Philip Taylor RIBA

Heritage: Philip Heath

The Assignment

CT Planning secured planning permission for the redevelopment of a farmhouse, riding stables and school to deliver 4 houses.

The application argued that the proposed volume did not exceed the volume of existing development on the site and that it would not have a greater impact on the openness of the Green Belt when compared to the baseline conditions.

The development resulted in significant enhancement to the character and appearance of the Great Barr Conservation Area by replacing the existing poor-quality buildings on the site to deliver a marked improvement to the visual appearance of the site.
